The Foundation is Set

In 1998, GQ Magazine declared Muhammad Ali the “Athlete of the Century.” Ali's presence and voice during the Civil Rights Movement would allow the country to understand the plight of African Americans facing systemic racism. Ali's voice during this time allowed the world to see that Black athletes are more than just the sport they play but are individuals with powerful platforms and ability to stand up against injustices. This role of athletes as social changemakers can be seen in today's world of sports, as Black athletes, and allies, inspired by Ali’s legacy of conviction, are standing up, speaking out, and using their platforms to advocate for a more just and inclusive world.
