Muhammad and LeRoy: A Friendship in Art

He Was Not The Champ, He Was A Tramp by Ali

Drawing by Muhammad Ali in marker, drawn on construction paper and pasted onto paper. Muhammad drew himself in a boxing ring standing over his opponent, labeled Joe Frazier, pointing and saying, "HE, WAS NOT THE, CHAMP HE WAS A TRAMP [SIC]". The ring is labeled Round 9 and below it reads the inscription, "To LeRoy Neiman".

In the lower left corner of the paper, LeRoy Neiman wrote a note, which states, "Taken to newspaper for use and they cut the ring out from a very developed crowd scene by Ali." The drawing is undated.

Donated to the Muhammad Ali Center in 2017 by the LeRoy Neiman and Janet Byrne Neiman Foundation.
