Return to Boxing and Conversion
Not too long after his conviction was overturned, Muhammad Ali built himself a training camp in Deer Lake, Pennsylvania. There, he ensured his spirituality was still at the forefront of his life and his training by building a mosque within the camp.
He was still a member of the Nation of Islam up until the death of its leader, Elijah Muhammad. The group's next leader, Elijah's son Warith Deen Mohammed, transitioned them towards teachings of Sunni Islam. Muhammad Ali also converted to Sunni Islam, but no longer affiliated himself with the Nation of Islam.
