...And a Mini-Series with a Highwayman
In 1979, Muhammad Ali took over home television screens as the star in a mini-series called Freedom Road, alongside another member of the Highwaymen, Kris Kristofferson. The show follows the journey of a formerly enslaved man after the U.S. Civil War who becomes a United States Senator and fights for the rights of Black sharecroppers.
Prior to filming Freedom Road, Ali and Kristofferson had been friends for some time. The musician often visited Ali's training camp in Deer Lake, Pennsylvania.
