In 2014, at the 44th Annual Legislative Conference Phoenix Awards Dinner for the Congressional Black Caucus, Muhammad Ali was recognized for his lifetime of contributions to improving the health and well-being of African Americans. The award reads, "The Congressional Black Caucus Foundation presents The George Thomas 'Mickey' Leland Phoenix Award to Muhammad Ali - Humanitarian - Awarded on behalf of the members of the Congressional Black Caucus in recognition of the exceptional compassion and great commitment to championing the causes of the poor, the underprivileged and the oppressed. September 27, 2014."
