Pugilist, Painter, Poet, Performer: The Many Sides of Muhammad Ali

A Reoccurring Scene

See more detail

"Boat and Mountains" drawn in marker and colored pencil by Muhammad Ali.

Donated by the LeRoy Neiman Foundation in 2017.

A Reoccurring Scene

In the later years of his life, Muhammad Ali seemed to draw this scene repeatedly, sometimes with a lighthouse or sometimes with a rocketship in the sky. The boat could be a different size or a different color, but there would always be two mountains with the boat floating between them. The Muhammad Ali Center houses many versions of this drawing in its permanent collection.
