World Champ Facing Reality by Ali

Pencil drawing created by Muhammad Ali of his prediction of his second boxing match against Sonny Liston. 

The boxing ring is situated on the left of the drawing. Round 9 is written to the right of the referree who, it appears, is crying or sweating. Dated November 19, 1964, Muhammad drew himself punching Liston off of the boxing ring. There are three judges situated, one on each side of the ring. LeRoy Neiman and his wife, Linda, are identified in the crowd, to the mid-right of the drawing. Above the ring is written, "Stop, He is finish'ed [sic] Champ."

Originally the second fight between Liston and Ali was scheduled for November 16, 1964. Due to a health complication, the fight was rescheduled for and held on May 25, 1965. Ali knocked Liston out in the first round. 

Donated to the Muhammad Ali Center in 2017 by the LeRoy Neiman and Janet Byrne Neiman Foundation.
