Muhammad and LeRoy: A Friendship in Art

“Stop Ali, It’s All Over –Go to Your Corner”, depicts a scene of Ali's return to boxing drawn by his own hand in marker of his fight with Jerry Quarry in October 1970. The ring is surrounded by the isles of the Atlanta Municipal Auditorium and a full crowd of people. Lester 'Maddox' is drawn running down the back right aisle, yelling "Stop that fight," while a referee directs Ali to "Stop Ali. It's all over-go to your corner 'now'".

The image is dated and signed by Muhammad, October 24, 1970. The match between Quarry and Ali took place October 26, 1970.

Lester Maddox was the Georgia governor and a segregationist, and was extremely opposed to the fight taking place in Atlanta. He went so far as to call for a boycott and declare a "Day of Mourning" the night before the match.
